President Tinubu Urges Research-Guided Policy Formulation in Science and Technology

President Bola Tinubu recently directed relevant ministries, departments, and agencies of the federal government to ensure that research outcomes in science and technology are used to enrich policies that impact the real sector.

The President emphasized the importance of leveraging the capacity of Nigerians to innovate and create solutions across various sectors.

During his investiture as the Grand Patron of Science by the Nigerian Academy of Science, President Tinubu acknowledged the rapid pace of change globally and the need for data-driven solutions, particularly in health and education.

He stressed the significance of integrating research and outcomes into policy formulation and implementation in all fields of national endeavor.

President Tinubu specifically called upon the Minister of Education, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning to ensure that science research guides process development in relevant areas of advantage.

Professor Ekanem Braide, the President of the Nigerian Academy of Science, lauded President Tinubu’s support for a national research fund and emphasized its potential to drive progress by harnessing inputs from the business community, academia, and public sector.

Professor Braide suggested that Nigeria’s 265 universities, 84 polytechnics, and 205 colleges of education be upscaled in science research infrastructure and funding to improve the lives of citizens.

President Tinubu’s directive for research-guided policy formulation in science and technology reflects a commitment to promoting innovation and creating solutions to national challenges.

The Nigerian Academy of Science’s efforts, under the leadership of Professor Ekanem Braide, highlight the importance of research and collaboration in driving progress and improving the lives of Nigerians.
