President Tinubu Unveils ‘P-Bat Cares for Nigerian Women’ Initiative on IWD

President Bola Tinubu has launched the Nigeria for Women programme, ‘P-Bat Cares for Nigerian Women’, on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

The initiative, unveiled at the State House conference centre in Abuja, aims to empower women and protect their rights through various packages, such as an e-market portal, a national women’s helpline, and a ‘Nigeria be informed’ national broadcast channel.

Speaking on the annual celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, President Tinubu emphasized the need for a change in attitude and determination to build the nation.

He called for knocking down outdated obstacles that hold women back, and stressed the importance of addressing social and gender norms that limit women’s progress.

Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, the minister of women affairs and social development, announced that the ministry will fight for women’s rights through legal means supported by the Naija Save Nigeria integrity/transparency brigade.

The minister also stated that the brigade was created to ensure cases concerning women are promptly attended to in the courts, and if necessary, they will approach the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) for compassion.

The ‘P-Bat Cares for Nigerian Women’ initiative is a significant step towards gender-inclusive growth in Nigeria.

It is a clear indication of the government’s commitment to empowering women and addressing the challenges they face.

However, as President Tinubu pointed out, policies alone cannot fix everything, and a change in attitude, determination, and a collaborative effort from all stakeholders are crucial for achieving a more gender-inclusive nation.

As Nigeria continues to work towards empowering its women and promoting gender equality, it is essential to recognize that the journey is not an easy one.

With the launch of this new initiative, Nigeria is taking a step in the right direction, and the hope is that this will inspire further action and change in the country.
