President Tinubu Suspends Betta Edu, Orders EFCC Investigation

President Bola Tinubu has suspended the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, from her position with immediate effect.

The President has also directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct a thorough investigation into the financial transactions of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, as well as one or more agencies under it.

President Tinubu’s decision comes in the wake of weighty allegations of abuse of office and financial impropriety leveled against the suspended minister.

In a statement released by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu emphasized his commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in the management of the commonwealth of Nigerians.

As part of the suspension, Dr. Betta Edu is required to hand over her responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

She is also expected to fully cooperate with the investigating authorities as they carry out their probe.

This development has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, with many expressing surprise at the swift action taken by President Tinubu.

The move is seen as a clear indication of the President’s determination to fight corruption and ensure that public officials are held accountable for their actions.
