President Tinubu Orders N2tn Poverty Relief Funds Probe, Minister Edu Faces EFCC Investigation

President Bola Tinubu has directed a comprehensive investigation into the financial transactions of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

The probe comes amid allegations of misappropriation of N585m in the ministry, which was reportedly transferred to a private account.

The President’s directive, which was made public on Monday, aims to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of the N2tn poverty relief funds allocated to the ministry over the past four years.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation into all financial transactions involving the ministry.

As part of the investigation, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, has been suspended from her position with immediate effect.

The President has also ordered the EFCC to summon Edu for questioning and to take further steps to commence a system-wide investigation into the alleged large-scale corruption and treasury looting pervading the ministry.

The move by President Tinubu has been met with widespread support from various quarters, with many applauding the President’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in the management of public funds.

The investigation is expected to shed light on the financial dealings of the ministry and bring to book any individuals found to have engaged in corrupt practices.

As the probe into the N2tn poverty relief funds gets underway, all eyes will be on the EFCC as it seeks to unravel the truth behind the alleged financial impropriety in the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
