President Bola Tinubu recently met with the President of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), Benedict Oramah, and a delegation from King’s College Hospital (KCH) in London at the State House in Abuja.

The meeting focused on the establishment of the Africa Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja and the commitment to improving healthcare in Nigeria.

During the meeting, President Tinubu commended Afreximbank and KCH London for their efforts in establishing the AMCE and emphasized that Nigeria is determined to meet the healthcare needs of its citizens.

He also stressed that Africa cannot afford to remain behind in quality and accessible healthcare systems.

The President also highlighted the urgency of meeting the needs of the Nigerian people, stating, “Out of every five black persons, one is a Nigerian.

We are racing against time to meet our obligations to our people.”

In addition to the establishment of the AMCE, the federal government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Afreximbank for a $1 billion facility to finance healthcare investment in Nigeria.

The collaboration between Afreximbank and KCH London will also involve the development of a medical and nursing school alongside the AMCE in Abuja.
