President Tinubu Honors Fallen Soldiers in Delta State with Scholarships and National Awards

In a solemn ceremony held at the military cemetery in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu paid tribute to the 17 soldiers who lost their lives in the Okuama community of Bomadi LGA, Delta State, on a peacekeeping mission.

The president conferred posthumous national honours on the deceased officers and announced scholarships for their children, as well as other benefits for their families.

Tinubu awarded the Members of the Order of Niger (MON) honour to four deceased officers and the Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR) medals to the other 13 soldiers.

He expressed his sympathy towards the families of the fallen heroes and acknowledged that they died on a “mission of peace.”

The president emphasized that the elders of the Okuama community must help the military identify the gunmen responsible for the soldiers’ deaths.

He also announced that the federal government will provide a house in any part of the country to each of the families of the deceased officers and soldiers.

In addition, the government has approved scholarships for all the children of the fallen soldiers up to the university level.

Tinubu stressed the importance of ensuring that all the benefits of the departed are paid to their families within the next ninety days.

The federal and state governments have previously promised that the perpetrators of the attack on the soldiers will be arrested and face the full extent of the law.

The names of the deceased soldiers are: A.H Ali, D.E Obi, S.D. Ashafa, U. Zakari, Yahaya Saidu, Danbaba Yahaya, Kabir Bashir, Abdullahi Ibrahim, Bulus Haruna, Sole Opeyemi, Bello Anas, Alhaji Isah, Clement Francis, Abubakar Ali, Adamu Ibrahim, Hamman Peter, and Ibrahim Adamu.

The president’s gesture of honoring the fallen soldiers with scholarships and national awards underscores the importance of recognizing the sacrifices made by the military in their efforts to maintain peace and stability in the country.
