Police in Oyo state have rescued a kidnapped farmer, bringing him to safety after days in captivity. Mr Owoade Matthew was abducted on July 13 along the Igbojaye–Budo Aare Bush Road, but operatives managed to free him after a swift operation.
The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the rescue through a statement issued by its public relations officer, Olayinka Ayanlade. He told reporters that Matthew regained his freedom just hours before the announcement was made public on Monday night.
The farmer is now receiving medical care at a facility following his ordeal. Ayanlade said doctors will evaluate him and provide necessary treatment before investigators begin questioning him about his abduction.
Police chiefs have made catching the suspects a priority. According to the statement, detectives plan to debrief Matthew once he completes his medical treatment, with the goal of identifying and prosecuting everyone involved in the kidnapping.
The rescue comes as kidnappings continue to plague parts of Nigeria's southwest. Security operatives have intensified efforts across Oyo state to tackle abductions and bring perpetrators to justice.
