Police Crackdown on Illegal Mining in Borno: Four Suspects Arrested

The Police Command in Borno has announced the arrest of four suspects for alleged illegal mining activities within the state.

This action comes as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal mining operations and protect the state’s valuable mineral resources.

Public Relations Officer Nahun Daso revealed that the suspects were apprehended for being in possession of 70 bags of assorted solid minerals suspected to be monoxide.

The arrests were made on March 24, with the assistance of the troops of the 331 Battalion in Bayo Local Government Area.

The suspects were then handed over to the police for further investigation and legal action.

The suspects have reportedly confessed to the crime, and the police have confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing.

The authorities have stated that the suspects will be charged in court once the investigation is completed.

Borno, a state rich in mineral resources, is home to various valuable minerals such as feldspar, limestone, kaolin, potash, iron-ore, quartz, magnetite, diatomite, trona, mica, silica sand, gypsum, granite, and flutters earth, among others.

The state government and law enforcement agencies are working together to ensure that these resources are exploited responsibly and in compliance with the law.

The crackdown on illegal mining operations is part of a broader effort to protect the environment, prevent the loss of valuable resources, and ensure that mining activities in Borno contribute to the state’s economic development.

The police and other relevant authorities have pledged to continue their efforts to combat illegal mining and other illicit activities that threaten the state’s natural resources and economic well-being.
