Police Arrest 25 Suspects in Minna Protest Against Hunger and High Cost of Living

The Niger State Police Command has arrested 25 persons for allegedly participating in Monday’s street protest against hunger and high cost of living in Minna, the State capital.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that one Aisha Jibrin was the initiator of the protest, and that she had been arrested with 24 other suspects.

According to Leadership News, some women and youths in their numbers had on Monday took to the street and blocked the Kpagungu axis of Minna-Bida Road in the Niger State capital city, protesting against hunger and high cost of living.

The women carried a placard with the inscription “No food, we are dying of hunger”, demanding a better condition of living and reduction in cost of living for the citizenry.

They accused political office-holders of insensitivity to their plight as they lamented inability to feed even once in a day.

The protest caused traffic gridlock on the ever-busy Minna-Bida Road, which is a link road to the South-West part of the country from the North-Central.

The situation in Minna reflects the growing concerns over the rising cost of living and the impact it has on the citizens.

As the government grapples with these issues, it remains to be seen how they will address the concerns of the protesters and work towards a better future for all.
