In a recent series of tweets, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to stop downplaying the hardship currently being suffered by citizens.
Obi expressed concern that the government is trying to play the ostrich even when the people are overwhelmed by the situation.
Obi noted that Nigeria is facing a multitude of challenges, including being the poverty capital of the world, among the most insecure people on earth, and among the hungriest.
The country also has poor education quality, the highest number of out-of-school children, high infant mortality, corruption, unemployment, the highest income gap between the poor and the rich, a high corruption perception index, and infrastructure and healthcare challenges.
The former Anambra State Governor urged those in leadership positions to offer tangible solutions to these issues, rather than simply acknowledging that other countries face similar challenges.
He stressed that the essence of true leadership lies in offering direction, guidance, solutions, and reassurance during crises, marking the signature of visionary leadership.
Obi's call for action comes at a time when Nigerians are facing unprecedented hardship, with many struggling to make ends meet.
The government's response to these challenges has been met with criticism, with many accusing the administration of not doing enough to address the issues facing the country.
As Nigeria continues to grapple with these challenges, it remains to be seen whether the government will heed Obi's call for a comprehensive approach to tackle the country's unique struggles.
