Peter Obi, a prominent figure in the Nigerian Democratic Congress, says Nigeria is drowning in self-inflicted problems despite its vast resources.
The NDC chieftain posted his thoughts on X on Wednesday evening. He urged Nigerians to keep faith that better days are possible.
Obi used the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir to address the nation's challenges. Muslims both in Nigeria and globally were celebrating the festival, he noted.
According to him, the Islamic holiday represents deep spiritual values that Nigerians need now. Faith, sacrifice, and obedience to God define the celebration, he said.
"Nigeria is a nation of immense potential, currently weighed down by avoidable challenges," Obi posted. He believes the spirit of Eid teaches that "after sacrifice comes fulfilment."
Citizens shouldn't abandon hope for a just and productive nation, the former presidential candidate argued. Every person must feel included in Nigeria's progress, he emphasized.
Obi called for prayers targeting specific groups during this sacred period. Security forces fighting on the frontlines deserved spiritual support, he said.
National leaders need divine wisdom to guide their decisions, according to him. Ordinary citizens carrying the weight of economic hardship also need relief, he added.
The NDC chieftain urged Nigerians to recommit to peace across all divides. Mutual respect between different faiths and regions was essential, in his view.
He prayed the festival would strengthen families and restore hope to communities. Obi wished all Muslims a blessed celebration as the nation faces its current difficulties.
His message touched on Nigeria's security challenges and economic pressures affecting millions. Yet he maintained that sacrifice and faith could transform the nation's trajectory.
