Seventeen lawmakers from the African Democratic Congress have switched to the Nigerian Democratic Congress. Speaker Abass Tajudeen announced the mass defection on the House floor Tuesday.

Among those who crossed over are Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, and Adamu Wakili. The group also includes Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, and Lilian Orogbu.

Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, and George Oluwande were part of the defectors too. So were Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Munachim Umezuruike, and Emeka Idu.

Rounding out the list are Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene, and Abdulhakeem Ado. One ADC member, Leke Abejide, joined the All Progressives Congress instead.

The defections mirror a broader exodus from the ADC at leadership level. Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, both former presidential candidates, dumped the party for the NDC just days ago.

Both men vowed to push their reform agenda within their new political home. They're committed to building a better Nigeria, they said.
