PDP Urges Probe into El-Rufai’s Administration: Debt and Contractual Liabilities in Focus

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has called on Governor Uba Sani to investigate the administration of his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, over the state’s financial and contractual liabilities.

In a recent statement, the PDP urged the governor to establish a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to scrutinize the huge debts and contractual obligations left by the El-Rufai administration.

Governor Uba Sani had revealed at a Town Hall meeting on March 30, 2024, that his administration would be unable to pay salaries without borrowing, citing the substantial debts inherited from El-Rufai.

The PDP, in response, stated that the governor’s disclosure is merely the tip of the iceberg and encouraged him to pursue complete transparency on the matter.

Recalling past instances in 2018 and 2022, the PDP had previously voiced concerns about the misuse of public funds under the El-Rufai administration.

The party accused El-Rufai’s government of engaging in the “criminal sale of landed properties belonging to the people of the state” and the “unconstitutional mass sacked of qualified teachers.”

The PDP believes that their stance has been vindicated by the current revelations.

The PDP has urged Governor Sani to establish a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to thoroughly investigate the $587 million in foreign loans, N85 billion in local loans, and N115 billion in contractual liabilities from unpaid abandoned contracts inherited from the previous administration.

Additionally, the party called for an inquiry into the sale of state-owned properties during El-Rufai’s tenure, with the aim of holding those found guilty accountable.

Furthermore, the PDP has requested the governor to establish a Civil Service Reforms Commission of Inquiry to review the process of sacking over 27,000 workers from the state civil service without appropriate compensation and to address the “bastardisation of the civil service.”

The opposition party has expressed its support for any plan by the government that would foster development in the state, emphasizing that it will continue to oppose any actions that deviate from this goal.
