PDP Urges Akpabio to Stop Meddling in Rivers State Politics

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, to refrain from meddling in the state’s politics.

The request comes after Akpabio made a statement at a recent function in the Tai Local Government area, urging the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nyesom Wike, to look for a successor from the Ogoni extraction.

The PDP’s spokesperson in Rivers State, Sydney Gbara, emphasized that Akpabio’s remarks were untimely and could exacerbate the already tense political atmosphere in the state.

He added that Governor Siminialayi Fubara enjoys immense support from the Ogonis, who are good neighbors to the people of Opobo and are also working on various development projects in the area.

Gbara further urged Akpabio to focus on his responsibilities as the Senate President and refrain from making statements that could potentially aggravate the political situation in Rivers State.

The PDP spokesperson emphasized that Governor Fubara, being the leader of the party in the state, will choose his successor at the end of his tenure, taking into account the input of Rivers people.

The call for Akpabio to stop meddling in Rivers State politics is a clear indication of the need for political leaders to be mindful of their words and actions, especially when it comes to sensitive issues that could potentially impact the stability of a region.
