PDP needs to solve its issues, says Bode George

Olabode George, the leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, has called on the party members to remain loyal and hopeful as the party works to recover from the crisis that marred its performance in the 2023 general elections.

The crisis was triggered by the choice of former Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as the running mate of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, which angered some party leaders and governors who wanted a southern candidate for the presidency.

The former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, led a group of five governors and other party stalwarts to demand the resignation of the former PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, who was also from the north, to ensure a “regional balance” in the party leadership.

Wike blamed the party’s leadership crisis on its failure to zone the presidential ticket to the south, as stipulated by the party’s constitution.

George, who spoke at the PDP general assembly in Lagos, said that the party would not allow its members to be divided or discouraged by the outcome of the elections.

He said that the party would conduct a “thorough post-mortem” to resolve all the issues that affected the party and hold accountable those who were responsible for any misconduct or mismanagement. He urged the party members to be steadfast and assured them that the party would regain its lost glory.
