Dr Adetokunbo Pearse, a senior PDP figure, insists the party faces no leadership crisis. He made the remarks on Saturday during an appearance on Arise Television's morning programme.
The Supreme Court recently ruled on two contentious matters affecting the opposition party. One involved the legality of the Ibadan convention; the other concerned Sam Anyanwu's expulsion.
According to Pearse, the court's decision on the convention didn't favor the PDP. But the judges upheld the expulsion of Anyanwu and his associates, he noted.
"Anyanwu is no longer a party member following that judgment," Pearse told the television audience. With Anyanwu's removal, he argued, the Turaki faction has lost all legal claim to lead.
Under party rules, the Board of Trustees will temporarily assume the National Working Committee's duties. Pearse said the BOT would name a transitional leadership team within two days to guide PDP through the election.
His comments come as factional disputes within Nigeria's main opposition continue to dominate headlines. Party loyalists remain divided over who legitimately controls the party structure.
