Governor Biodun Oyebanji told supporters on Monday that his track record proves he deserves a second term in office. He highlighted achievements in infrastructure, education, agriculture, and security since taking office in 2022.
Oyebanji campaigned in Oye and Ikole local government areas on Monday. The events marked the official start of his re-election push across all 16 councils before the June 20 poll.
Thousands of residents showed up at both venues. They came dressed in Ankara fabric printed with the governor's image, cheering loudly for his candidacy.
Several opposition members switched to the ruling APC at the gatherings. Oyebanji's team described the turnout as overwhelming and energetic.
He stressed that the coming election would be decided by votes, not violence. "This is a war of votes, not guns and cutlasses," he told the crowd.
According to him, rivals are worthy sons of Ekiti who have every right to contest. But he argued his performance makes him the logical choice for continued leadership.
Oyebanji singled out Ikole for special attention during his remarks. He noted the council has the most representatives in his executive council.
He reminded voters of promises made four years ago. Roads, electricity, schools, and health facilities all got delivered, he said.
"We promised you security. We promised you financial help for market women.
We fulfilled every single one," Oyebanji noted.
Before his emergence, security challenges plagued the Itapaji-Irele-Ipao-Oke Ako corridor. The governor credited collaboration with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for restoring calm there.
Ekiti now ranks as Nigeria's most peaceful state. He attributed this shift to his administration's commitment to safety.
According to him, continuity and shared vision built the world's most developed nations. "BAO is working for Ekiti," he declared, using his initials as a slogan.
The governor urged every eligible voter to cast their ballot for the APC. He called on supporters to activate unit canvassers in their neighborhoods.
"We have already won this election," Oyebanji told the crowd confidently. "Now we must ensure massive turnout on voting day."
His campaign kicked off officially last week in Ado Ekiti with a massive rally. Six governors attended, including APC Governors' Forum Chairman Hope Uzodinma of Imo State.
National party chair Prof Nentawe Yilwadta also graced the Ado event. The show of force signaled strong national backing for Oyebanji's bid.
Supporters at Monday's events wore matching attire bearing campaign colors. The atmosphere remained celebratory throughout both gatherings.
Oyebanji promised the good work would continue with voter support. He encouraged residents to "preach the gospel of BAO" to their communities.
