Three suspected cultists and political thugs are now in custody in Osun State. Police recovered firearms, ammunition, charms and other weapons during the operations.

Osun Police Command made the announcement on Tuesday through its spokesperson. DSP Abiodun Ojelabi released the statement on behalf of Commissioner Ibrahim Gotan.

The arrests represent ongoing efforts to keep the state safe for law-abiding citizens. Police say they're determined to root out criminal elements from communities.

Adekola Olayinka Abdulazeez is 27 years old. Omolara Ezekiel is 28, while Babatunde Azeez is 32.

Officers recovered three English Beretta pistols during the operations. They also seized one cut-to-size gun, ammunition and bladed weapons.

The haul included one live round of ammunition and two additional cartridges. Four cutlasses and three axes were also recovered from the suspects.

The operation began on May 22, 2026 around 10:00 a.m. A patrol team from Ikirun Area Command stopped Abdulazeez during a routine check.

He was riding an unregistered motorcycle when officers approached him. A search of his person turned up two pistols, an axe and charms.

Investigators transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department. The Anti-Robbery Section took over the probe immediately.

During questioning, Abdulazeez allegedly confessed his membership in Eiye Confraternity. According to him, he was delivering the weapons to Ezekiel before his arrest.

Intelligence work led police to track down the other two suspects. Officers apprehended them following further investigation into the matter.

Ezekiel and Azeez's arrest resulted in more weapons being discovered. A loaded Beretta pistol turned up during their detention.

Searches of their homes yielded additional cutlasses and cartridges. Police say investigations are still ongoing at this time.

Authorities are working to identify other gang members. Several suspects remain at large, sources close to the investigation say.

CP Gotan issued a stern warning to troublemakers across the state. He told political thugs and miscreants to abandon plans for violence.

According to him, the command won't tolerate disruptions to public peace. Police will continue partnering with stakeholders to eliminate criminal activities.
