Troops operating under Operation Enduring Peace have freed a pastor and his wife from kidnappers in Plateau State. They were rescued from Faggem village in Bokkos Local Government Area on Friday.
The abductors took the couple on June 5th, 2026. Other victims were also held at the same location.
Captain Polycarp Oteh, spokesman for the task force, confirmed the rescue in a statement released Sunday. He said Sector 5 troops responded immediately to a distress call from the village.
According to him, the rapid military response forced criminals to flee into nearby forests. The kidnappers abandoned their captives and scattered in different directions.
Troops chased the suspects into the bush and managed to locate the pastor and his wife. Both had suffered injuries during the initial kidnapping attempt.
Medical personnel rushed the couple to Bokkos medical clinic for urgent treatment. They received care immediately upon arrival at the facility.
Soldiers then searched the hideout where the victims had been held. They found eight empty cases of 7.62mm special ammunition at the scene.
Captain Oteh noted that troops launched a follow-up manhunt into the adjoining forest. The operation aimed to track down the fleeing abductors.
In his statement, the OPEP spokesman assured residents of continued military action. He promised that troops would intensify operations against criminal gangs across highways and communities.
The rescue marks another success for security forces in the troubled region. Banditry and kidnapping have plagued Plateau State for several months.
