Onitsha South constituents laud ex-lawmaker for quality representation

Some Constituents of Onitsha South II constituency, have commended the quality representation of Mrs Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche, in the 7th Anambra House of Assembly.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent who sampled opinions of some constituents in a telephone interview in Awka on Friday reports that most constituents interviewed described her representation as far reaching.

Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche did not seek re-election to the house this year after representing her people for 12 years.

NAN reports that a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Onyechi Ikpeazu, commended his sister, Beverly, for her meritorious representation for 12 years as a lawmaker.

“Beverly served humanely during her 12 years as a lawmaker and made us all proud.

“The people believed in her judgmental principles and entrusted their trust in her by re-electing her thrice, which saw her in the house for 12 years.

Ikpeazu said that it will be nice to allow an elected member to represent more than once to attain the order of a ranking member to enable the member get leadership position where meaningful legislation would be gained, citing an American speaker in the Congress, who who was in his 32nd year as a representative.

“A one time member will be a junior without key position and will spend four years without any position in the house to push for the good of the constituents while a ranking members gets more value.

“We need to understand the need to vote for lawmakers who have served more than once for quality and impactful representation like my sister,” he said.

Mrs Chinwe Obi, a constituent, said that the women and girl child in the constituency enjoyed a lot of benefits under her representation, because she held promotional programmes and awareness that really changed their sense of direction.

Obi said that Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche’s human capital development is unequalled, as the youths in the constituency are empowered a lot, and her educational support programme was major among the lowly, “we will miss her a lot”.

Mr Izuchukwu Amo said that he has lived in the area for decades and have not witnessed any member representing the constituency in the past with the Midas touch which she used efficiently.

“She was accessible all through her years as a lawmaker and responded to complains brought before her,” she said.

Mrs Stella Muoneke commended the representation of Ikpeazu–Nkemdiche and described her as a great legislator who represented her constituency very well and proved that women can perform creditably in any sector of life.

NAN reports that Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche was the only women in the 7th Anambra assembly and was the former Chief Whip and represented under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
