‘One Elephant Out of the Road,’ Gov. Fubara Says of Supreme Court Judgement

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed relief after the Supreme Court dismissed an appeal by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Tonye Cole, seeking to overturn his victory in the March 18, 2023 governorship election.

The Supreme Court’s decision marks the end of a series of legal challenges that have been a source of distraction for the newly elected governor.

In a unanimous decision, the five-member panel of the apex court held that Cole’s appeal lacked merit and was dismissed.

The court found that the appellant failed to prove allegations of irregularities, non-compliance, and non-qualification of Governor Fubara to contest the election.

Following the judgement, Governor Fubara stated that the Supreme Court’s verdict has removed one of the major obstacles in his administration’s path, allowing him to focus on delivering his campaign promises to the people of Rivers State.

“With this judgement, one elephant is out of the road, and we can now focus on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Rivers State,” said Governor Fubara. “We are grateful for the support of our people and the trust they have placed in us. We will not let them down.”

The Supreme Court’s decision brings an end to the legal battle that has been ongoing since the governorship election in March 2023.

With this verdict, Governor Fubara can now concentrate on addressing the pressing issues facing the state and working towards the development and progress of Rivers State.

In conclusion, the Supreme Court’s dismissal of the appeal by Tonye Cole has provided Governor Siminalayi Fubara with the opportunity to move forward and focus on his duties as the Governor of Rivers State.

With this hurdle out of the way, the people of the state can look forward to a renewed focus on the issues that matter most to them.
