A 43-year-old man has been ordered remanded over rape allegations. AbdulAzeez Adebayo, known locally as "Oloye," faces charges in Akure Magistrate Court.

The alleged assault happened on May 1, 2026. It occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. in Oda community, within Akure South Local Government Area.

According to court records, the victim was a 16-year-old girl. She worked as an apprentice under Adebayo's wife, learning fashion design.

She also helped with household duties at their residence. On the morning in question, her employer had summoned her to prepare a meal.

The teenager told Daily Trust newspaper what happened that day. Her father had dropped her off at the house as instructed by her boss.

When she arrived, Adebayo was home. She said he made her deeply uncomfortable from the moment she entered.

"Immediately he saw me, he started admiring my body," she recounted in tears. "He spoke sweet words to me and praised my father for being hardworking."

While she worked in the kitchen, he approached her. He then forcibly carried her to his matrimonial bedroom while she screamed for help.

"He tried to cover my mouth with cloth," the victim explained. "He removed my underwear and had sexual intercourse with me."

She said he threatened her with a cutlass when neighbors heard her cries. The girl's resistance proved futile against his assault.

Her father, named simply as Abdullahi, learned of the incident and broke down. He immediately reported the matter to Oda Police Station.

Police arrested Adebayo following the complaint. They later transferred the case to the Gender-Based Violence Unit of Ondo State Police Command.

Adebayo appeared before Magistrate Taiwo Lebi on a single rape charge. Prosecutor Augustine Omheneihen detailed the alleged offense in court.

Omheneihen told the court the defendant allegedly defiled the girl at his Oda residence. He requested that Adebayo be held at Olokuta Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Adebayo's defence lawyer, Mr. G.

Samuel, sought more time. He asked the court for an adjournment to file a counter-affidavit in response.

Magistrate Lebi granted the request for postponement. He scheduled the next hearing for May 8, 2026.

Until then, Adebayo will remain in police custody. The court decision means he won't be released on bail pending the next court appearance.
