Omoyele Sowore arrived at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday morning. The 2027 presidential hopeful was transported from Kuje correctional centre where he's being held.
Sowore, who publishes Sahara Reporters, faces trial on charges related to statements he made online. He allegedly called President Bola Tinubu "a criminal" in posts on X and Facebook.
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar ordered him remanded in prison on Monday. The judge rejected his request to stay the bail revocation and bench warrant order.
DSS operatives arrested Sowore and handed him to prison officials immediately after. Activists and supporters crowded the court premises Wednesday to monitor proceedings.
He appeared in good spirits when he arrived. Sowore smiled while chatting with his lawyers outside the courtroom.
The Department of State Services is prosecuting the case. They allege he made false and defamatory statements against the president online.
His legal team continues fighting to restore his freedom. Observers watched closely as the trial progressed Wednesday.
