The immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, has assured leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ughelli North Local Government Area that the party will emerge stronger ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking at a meeting held on Thursday at the Ughelli Kingdom Hall, Omo-Agege commended Ughelli North APC leaders for their remarkable performance in the last election, emphasizing that if leaders in other local governments had achieved similar results, APC would currently be in control of the Government House in Asaba. He urged them to build on these gains and consolidate their efforts for even greater success in the next election cycle.
Omo-Agege also called on Deltans to hold Governor Sheriff Oborevwori accountable for how the state's substantial allocations are being spent, insisting that such funds must be judiciously utilized for the benefit of the people.
During the meeting, Hon. Abel Oshevire, a former member of the Delta State House of Assembly from Ughelli North, moved a motion for a vote of confidence in Omo-Agege’s continued leadership of Delta APC. The motion was unanimously endorsed by the leaders, elders, and stakeholders through a voice vote.
Highlighting APC’s achievements in the last election, Omo-Agege noted that the party won two senatorial seats, disproving the narrative that Delta is solely a PDP state. He stressed that with unity among party members, APC is well-positioned to take over Delta State in 2027.
“What we need to do now is build on the gains of the last election and consolidate in areas where we performed well while devising strategies to address our weaknesses,” he said.
He emphasized the need to strengthen APC’s presence in Delta Central and Delta South while rebuilding the party in Delta North, which he described as the weakest link.
“To consolidate our efforts, just two days ago, we attracted a political heavyweight, the real Lioness of the Niger Delta, Hon. Erhiatake Ibori, along with her teeming supporters, to Delta APC,” Omo-Agege revealed.
The former DSP also challenged Governor Oborevwori to account for the state's finances, pointing out that Delta has received over N900 billion in allocations in the past year and six months, an amount greater than the total allocation received by the five states in the South-East combined.
"Governor Sheriff Oborevwori must explain how these funds have been spent. He claims to be building bridges which is not a bad thing, and he says it cost N86 billion. Subtract that from N900 billion, and we still have over N700 billion. Traveling through Delta, can anyone tell where such an enormous amount of money has been spent? This is why Deltans must start asking questions," Omo-Agege stated.
Present at the meeting were prominent APC figures, including Acting State Chairman Barr. Francis Obigbor, State Secretary Surv. Peter Akarogbe, and members of the State Working Committee. Others included Chief Judith Emuobonuvie Enamuotor, Prof. Ibodje, Chief Engr. Joseph Asa, Dr. Otive Igbuzo, House of Assembly members, Ughelli North APC Chairman Mr. Onoabedje Obakpororo, Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi, and other party stalwarts.
The meeting served as a platform to unite APC leaders and chart a clear course toward victory in the 2027 elections, with a renewed focus on accountability, consolidation, and strategic planning.
