The immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has called on leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State to demonstrate unwavering commitment to the party by fostering unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Senator Omo-Agege made this appeal on Wednesday at Ovu-Orhie, Ethiope East Local Government Area, during an enlarged meeting of leaders and stakeholders drawn from all 11 wards in the area.
Speaking to party faithful, Omo-Agege, who was the APC’s governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, urged all well-meaning members, particularly in the Ethiope Federal Constituency, to close ranks and avoid divisive tendencies for the overall development of the party and the constituency.
The APC leader emphasized his commitment to party growth, contrasting his leadership style with that of other leaders who only reappear during election cycles. “I am here to interact with you on the way forward,” he stated, adding that the meeting was focused on identifying areas where the party performed poorly in the last election and how to improve ahead of 2027.
While commending the party’s successes in the 2023 elections, Omo-Agege acknowledged shortcomings but highlighted key achievements: “For the first time, we won two senatorial seats, one House of Representatives seat—now two—and seven House of Assembly seats. No opposition party has achieved such a feat in Delta State since 1999.”
Reflecting on the party's loss in the gubernatorial race, Omo-Agege cited internal sabotage as a significant factor. “It wasn’t for lack of capacity, but internal sabotage among some party leaders. However, our focus now is to build a united party strong enough to unseat the PDP and end its years of unproductive governance in Delta,” he added.
Omo-Agege expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in 2027, especially with the defection of notable PDP figures, including Rt. Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, the representative of Ethiope East/Ethiope West Constituency and Chairperson of the House Committee on NDDC. “With these developments, APC is well-positioned to sweep Ethiope Federal Constituency and Delta State in 2027,” he concluded.
In her remarks, the member representing Ethiope Federal constituency, Rt. Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, fondly referred to as the “Lioness of the Niger Delta,” urged party leaders to demonstrate their commitment to the APC by investing in its growth and development.
She emphasized that leadership in the party is determined by the level of financial and material contributions made. “A true party leader does not hoard funds meant for election purposes but one who goes beyond what the party provides to ensure victory,” she stated.
Ibori-Suenu further encouraged leaders to work collectively, saying, “When we work together and invest our time and resources, PDP’s days in Delta are numbered.”
The meeting was attended by several notable APC leaders, including Acting State Chairman Chief Francis Obigbor, Chief Mrs. Judith Emuobonuvie Enamuotor, Chief Francis Atanomeyovwi (Federal Commissioner, National Assembly Service Commission), Mrs. Blessing Brume-Ataguba (Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission), and others such as Hon. Efe Ofobruku, Hon. Oharisi Eric, and Hon. Oshevire Joseph.
Also present were Hon. Chief Ivwurie Evans, Chief Kent Akigho, Chief Christopher Ominimini, Hon. Innocent Anidi, and Mrs. Hopelyn Ayo.
The meeting marked a renewed call for unity and strategic planning as the Delta APC charts its course for victory in the 2027 elections.
