The Concerned Citizens of Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency have reiterated their determination to recall Hon. Ngozi Okolie, citing his poor performance and lack of accountability. The group’s statement follows Hon. Okolie’s recent admission in a media interview that he had achieved only “one or two things” since assuming office 18 months ago, a confession they described as a clear admission of failure.
In a press statement signed by Dr. Tony Curtis, Chairman, Concerned Citizens of Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, and Secretary, Concerned Citizens of Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, the Concerned Citizens noted that Okolie’s acknowledgment vindicates their claims of his ineffectiveness as a representative.
“Hon. Okolie’s confession further validates our reports that projects being bandied by his Press Unit are mostly unsubstantiated assertions and appropriating of credit to programmes and interventions executed by other entities,” the group stated.
The group challenged Okolie to provide a detailed account of how constituency project funds released to him have been utilized, alleging that he has failed to execute meaningful development projects.
“When confronted by the media about claims of appropriating credit for other people’s projects, Hon. Okolie resorted to threats and blackmail instead of providing concrete evidence to refute the allegations,” the statement read.
The Concerned Citizens also highlighted alleged whispers in the public domain about Hon. Okolie’s reported bail incidents at police stations and a purported connection to a gambling center in a Port Harcourt hotel, where they allege resources meant for the constituency are being mismanaged.
The group further criticized Okolie’s Press Unit for issuing what they described as false performance claims, including plans to repair unnamed federal highways and unsubstantiated distributions of solar streetlights, school furniture, fertilizers, and grants to farmers.
“These claims lack specifics regarding the number of items distributed, the beneficiary communities, or individuals, making them appear as mere propaganda to deceive the public,” the group alleged.
According to the group, Hon. Okolie has become disconnected from the people of Aniocha/Oshimili, often absent from his legislative duties at the House of Representatives. Instead, they accused him of prioritizing photo opportunities with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at public events to bolster his public image.
“His attitude towards the people of Aniocha/Oshimili is unsurprising, given that his regrettable emergence in the National Assembly was not a product of the people’s will but of electoral manipulation,” the group asserted.
Reaffirming their decision to recall Hon. Okolie, the Concerned Citizens declared that he is unfit to represent their constituency, accusing him of prioritizing personal enrichment over the welfare of his constituents.
“Hon. Okolie must know that the people of Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency are resolute in standing up for their rights. No amount of blackmail, threats, smear campaigns, or inducements can deter us from pursuing his recall,” the statement emphasized.
The group called on constituents to remain steadfast in their resolve to ensure that their representation in the House of Representatives reflects accountability, transparency, and genuine development.
