Defender Igoh Ogbu faces months on the sidelines after suffering a serious injury. The 26-year-old ruptured his Achilles tendon during Super Eagles training in Lisbon on Saturday.
Promise Efoghe, the national team's media officer, made the announcement on Sunday. He confirmed Ogbu would undergo scans to determine the full extent of the damage.
Medical assessments suggest the centre-back won't return to action for at least nine months. This could derail his plans for the remainder of the season.
Ogbu had recently featured for Nigeria at the Unity Cup in London. He also played in the friendly match against Poland that ended 2-2.
His injury is a blow to the squad ahead of major competitions. Ogbu had been included in Nigeria's 2025 Africa Cup of Nations plans.
