Ochor’s Foundation empowers Ukwuani market women with N5m

The Ochor Ochor Foundation on Friday gave out the sum of N5 million to members of the Market Women Association, Ukwuani Local Government Chapter as empowerment, as part of his efforts to boost their business.

 

The empowerment program which is the second phase of the Foundation’s empowerment program to the people of  Ukwuani, after the first one held in December, 2019, where 22 girls and women were empowered with different startup kits and cash.

 

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Christopher Ochor Ochor, who is also the Chairman of the Foundation said, the second phase is targeted at 141 beneficiaries from the 10 wards of the constituency as a way to boost their businesses following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

The Deputy Speaker while enjoining the women to make judicious use of the money to further boost their living standard, noted that other group will also be attended to in due course.

 

 

According to him, “we will continue to set aside a fraction from whatever we have to share with our people in our appreciation of their support and also to boost the economy of Ukwuani.”

 

He reminded them that their business successes will not only improve their lives, but also the economy of their community, Ukwuani and that of the Delta state.

 

Ochor also stated that empowerment scheme is part of the “Stronger Delta Agenda” of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa-led government in the state which focuses on empowering Deltans through Entrepreneurial trainings and support for existing businesses.

 

He thanked the market women for their contribution  to the success story of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and his House of Assembly election victory in the 2019 election.

 

The occasion depicted the excitement of the benefitting women who were adorned in a green white green uniformed dress code.

 

The Chairman of the event and State Commissioner for Women affairs, Mrs. Flora Alanta thanked the Ochor Ochor Foundation, and the Deputy Speaker for keying into the Governor Okowa’s mission to decongest the labour market.

 

She encourage other PDP leaders to emulate the gesture, nothing that by the empowering the women, “Ochor has displayed uncommon leadership quality that should be emulated by others.”

 

She stressed that, “not every elected politician will come back to appreciate the electorate. I want to ask that more of these be done for our women, because they have the capacity to grow anything committed into their hands.”

 

Also speaking, the Market Women Association, Ukwuani Chapter and Women Leader PDP UKwuani Local Government Area, Lady Betty Atagoshi, pointed out that women are power houses for any economic growth in the society. So, empowering the women, is empowering the nation at large.

 

She also pledged their continues support for the PDP, Okowa administration and Rt. Hon.Christopher Ochor Ochor for its commitment to the welfare of  Ukwuani women.

 

Highpoints of the Ochor Ochor Foundation empowerment programme was the presentation of the N5m cash to the market women body and the decoration of the Deputy Speaker.

 

Some other notable leaders who attended the event are; the Member representing Ndokwa West State Constituency, Hon. Charles Emetulu, Uvwie State Constituency, Hon Solomon Ighrakpata, Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Mr. Chika Ossai, State Vice Chairman and Chairman of Delta North PDP, DCN Moses Idu, the state Secretary of the Party, and the State Woman Leader, amongst other dignitaries.
