Oboro is a typical Urhobo politician – Omene

By Akpos Oghenetega,

The President General of the apex body of the Urhobos at home and in Diaspora, Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, Chief Joe Omene on Friday came hard on the former member representing Okpe, Uvwie, and Sapele constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Evelyn Oboro for accepting the position of Special Adviser to Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.

Omone said Oboro acceptance of the position of Special Adviser only reiterated his long stand on politicians of Urhobo extraction as ‘stomach infrastructure’ politicians.

“I am surprised, as a woman, I thought Oboro will be different, but what she has done is typical Urhobo of politician, they burn backwards like firewood. This person you are talking about has been in politics since 1999, she was chairman of Uvwie Local Government for many years before she went to house of reps, she has been in the corridors of power, if she has risen to the position of a house of Rep member, why are you coming down again to the grassroot to look for peanuts. Even if you fail election, prepare for the next one, why downgrading yourself to look for crumbs,” Omene asked.

Omene said the ideal thing is that she should have given that position to one of her aides, extolling the present  member representing Ehiope Federal constituency in the House of Representatives who turned down such position in the recent past.

According to him; “they should take a cue from Hon Ben Igbakpa, when Okowa gave such position to Igbakpa in his first tenure, he decline to take it. It’s sad that most politicians in Urhobo land have no self worth, they are everywhere here in Urhobo land, come to Ethiope West, there are very many here in Oghara, go to Sapele, go to Jesse, and Ughelli, you will see former Senators, commissioners, coming to be SAs.

“Those who have been party chairman, deputy chairman coming to take SA position, can you imagine, all this for stomach infrastructure. Any good politician when you are in power you should be able to save, if common ant should gather food for the rainy day, why not Urhobo politicians?”

The Fiery UPU PG said the moment Urhobo politician starts realising that the interest of the Urhobo people is far above their personal interest, they will start climbing, adding “if you think you will sell Urhobo for your personal ambition, you cannot go forward; you will always be falling back. Let them take a cue from the likes of Fashola, and the rest in Lagos State who play national politics after the state, not local champions we have here.”
