Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has been honoured with an Award of Excellence by the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public resources.

The award was presented to the Governor on Wednesday during the opening ceremony of a two-day Public Procurement Enlightenment Workshop for members of the State Executive Council and senior government officials at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.

Represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Ph.D, Governor Oborevwori used the occasion to reveal that his administration executed strategic projects valued at over ₦654.5 billion in 2025 without borrowing, attributing the achievement to fiscal discipline, prudent financial management, and strict adherence to due process.

According to him, the state awarded 362 contracts valued at ₦25 million and above across critical sectors, including road infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other development projects.

“Our administration recognises that an efficient procurement system is essential to good governance. This has informed our efforts to strengthen institutional frameworks that promote openness, fairness, competition, and value for money in project execution,” the Governor said.

He stressed that his administration's achievements demonstrated that responsible governance and sustainable development could be achieved without compromising financial stability.

“Significantly, these achievements were recorded without borrowing; through fiscal discipline, prudent financial management, and strict adherence to due process, we have continued to fund major projects while maintaining the financial stability of the State,” he added.

Governor Oborevwori said the workshop, themed “Understanding the Delta State Public Procurement Law, 2020,” was designed to deepen knowledge of procurement regulations and strengthen accountability among government officials.

He described public procurement as a critical process through which government resources are transformed into roads, schools, hospitals, water projects, and other infrastructure that directly impact citizens’ lives.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the Delta State Public Procurement Commission through sustained funding, capacity building, and institutional support to enhance efficiency and public confidence.

Presenting the award, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, said Governor Oborevwori had demonstrated commendable leadership in managing the resources of Delta State.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Delta State Public Procurement Council, AIG. Barr. David Igbodo (rtd), said the workshop reflected the state government’s commitment to institutional excellence, transparency, accountability, and compliance with the Delta State Public Procurement Law, 2020.

He noted that Governor Oborevwori’s leadership had given practical expression to the principles of due process, resulting in quality projects that deliver value for money and align with the objectives of the MORE Agenda.
