President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's choice to keep Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for 2027 will strengthen the APC's bid to retain power, a top party official said on Wednesday. Garba Datti Muhammad, the APC's North-West Vice Chairman, made the comment in a statement praising Shettima's re-nomination.
Datti said the decision shows Tinubu's confidence in his deputy's abilities and dedication to serving the nation. He described Shettima as a reliable ally whose work has won public support.
"I sincerely congratulate the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, on his re-nomination by the President," Datti said. He added that Tinubu's move demonstrates trust in Shettima's loyalty and commitment to Nigeria.
The APC chieftain framed the ticket as a calculated political strategy that will give the ruling party an edge heading into the 2027 general election. Tinubu has once again shown shrewd political judgment, Datti argued, noting that the APC remains the frontrunner for next year's polls.
"The President has once again displayed his political sagacity with this decision," he said. "The APC remains the party to beat in the next general elections."
According to Datti, Nigerians have expressed satisfaction with Shettima's performance in office and his commitment to the nation. The Vice President's loyalty and dedication have earned the confidence of citizens across the country, he noted.
Datti called on party members and all Nigerians to continue backing the APC administration. He urged them to support the government as it pursues its development programmes and delivers on its promises to Nigerians.
"May I use this medium to call on the teeming members of our party and every well-meaning Nigerian to continue to support the APC administration as it works tirelessly to deliver on its mandate," he added.
