Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Thursday, paid glowing tribute to the late Executive Director, Projects at the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Olorogun Taleb Tebite, lauding him as a selfless leader who sacrificed his own comfort to assist those in need.
Speaking during the funeral service held at All Saints' Anglican Cathedral, Otor-Iwhreko, Ughelli, Governor Oborevwori highlighted Tebite's generosity, noting that the large crowd at the service was a testament to the impact of his life. He urged Tebite’s family to take comfort in knowing that their patriarch lived a life of service and accomplishments, both to God and humanity.
"The church is filled because a man the people loved is gone," Oborevwori remarked. "Taleb was a selfless man who could borrow just to give, always ready to help those in need. He was not only a political leader but a servant of the people."
Governor Oborevwori reflected on Tebite’s legacy, emphasizing that true greatness is measured by how one is remembered after death. "Today, we celebrate the life of a great man—a politician, a brother, a friend—who left behind a legacy of generosity and service."
The Governor further expressed his condolences to the family, assuring them that Tebite’s life was one of significance, which is why he is being celebrated widely. He encouraged them to find solace in God and asked friends and associates to continue supporting the family.
In his sermon, the Archbishop of Bendel Province, Anglican Communion, Most Rev'd Cyril Odutemu, described Tebite as a man who lived for others, urging Christians to live according to the ways of the Lord. He also took the opportunity to criticize certain Federal Government economic policies, stating that any policy that adds to the suffering of the people is anti-people.
Tebite, who passed away at 64, was from Okpare-Olomu in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State. His life of selfless service will be remembered by many.
