Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, extending heartfelt condolences to Governor Douye Diri, the bereaved family, and the Government and people of Bayelsa State.

In a condolence message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori described the passing of Senator Ewhrudjakpo—fondly referred to as “a man of many proverbs”—as tragic and deeply saddening, noting that the loss has left a painful void in Bayelsa State and the wider Niger Delta.

The Governor said the late Deputy Governor was a man of uncommon wisdom, intellect and humility, whose contributions to governance and public service resonated far beyond Bayelsa State, leaving enduring legacies in the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large.

Oborevwori stated: “I join the Governor, his family, Government and people of Bayelsa State, friends and allies in mourning Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

“He was a team player, a dependable partner in leadership and a fountain of wisdom. His passing is a painful reminder of the fragility of life.”

While condoling Governor Douye Diri and the people of Bayelsa State on the irreplaceable loss, Oborevwori urged them to draw comfort from the exemplary life of service and dedication the late Deputy Governor lived in public office.

“On behalf of my family, the people and Government of Delta State, I pray that the Almighty God grants Governor Douye Diri, his family and all who mourn him the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” he added.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo, who served as Deputy Governor under Governor Douye Diri, was widely admired across the Niger Delta for his eloquence, deep understanding of governance and his distinctive use of proverbs in public communication, qualities that endeared him to colleagues and the public alike.
