Obasanjo’s New Book Highlights the Importance of Good Leadership for Africa’s Progress

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has recently released a new book titled “The Art of Leading: Unconventional Wisdom from Biblical” in which he emphasizes the crucial role of good leadership for Africa’s progress.

The book was launched on Monday, March 5, 2024, in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, as part of the activities marking his 87th birthday.

In a statement by his special assistant on media, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo stressed the importance of good leadership, noting that without it, Africa cannot go far together.

The former president’s message resonated with the special guest of honour, John Mahama, the former president of Ghana, who also spoke at the event.

Mahama emphasized the need for African leaders to lead with wisdom and seek divine guidance while instilling values worthy of emulation.

Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Hassan Kukah, who reviewed the 13-chapter book, highlighted the role of Christians in politics and how they should lead with service and obedience.

The event was attended by several prominent figures, including traditional rulers, captains of industry, diplomatic corps members, and academia from tertiary institutions.

Okey Emuchay, the secretary general of the Ohanaeze Eze Ndigbo, praised the former president for being a role model to the Ibo race.

In addition to the book launch, Obasanjo also organized a youth leadership symposium on Monday, focusing on the “Opportunities for peace: Roles of the youths in conflict prevention in Africa.”

This symposium further demonstrated the former president’s commitment to nurturing and empowering the next generation of leaders in Africa.

Obasanjo’s new book serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of good leadership in Africa’s progress.

The book launch and youth leadership symposium have sparked conversations and shed light on the need for strong, ethical, and visionary leaders to steer the continent towards a brighter future.
