Policy Adviser to Senator Ned Nwoko and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Emmanuel Afam Eboh has dismissed as “fake news” the claim that Asaba would be removed as the capital of the proposed Anioma State.
In a statement issued in Abuja, he clarified that the Anioma State Creation Bill sponsored by Senator Nwoko clearly designates Asaba as the capital, adding that no proposal or discussion has ever suggested an alternative.
Describing those circulating the rumour as “grossly ignorant,” Eboh said the legislative process is governed by strict procedures that do not allow arbitrary alterations once a bill is before the National Assembly.
He condemned the speculation as “the most sinister and mischievous propaganda ever concocted in the renewed quest for Anioma State creation,” accusing certain “political mercenaries” of attempting to sabotage the aspirations of the Anioma people. He warned that those responsible for spreading the falsehood “will soon be exposed.”
Reaffirming Senator Nwoko’s unwavering commitment to Asaba as both the current capital of Delta State and the “irrefutable headquarters” of the proposed Anioma State, Eboh urged residents of Asaba, Delta North, and the general public to disregard the rumour.
He highlighted the senator’s development-focused interventions—including the push to upgrade the Federal College of Education (Technical), Asaba, into a university and ongoing efforts to rehabilitate the Asaba–Onitsha road—as evidence of his dedication to strengthening the city.
Eboh also appealed for continued support for Senator Nwoko, stressing that the quest for Anioma State is a noble continuation of a 70-year agitation that will benefit all.
