Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sapele Correspondents’ Chapel, have unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the Executive Committee led by Chairman, Comrade Nelson Agbajor, and constituted an Election/Credentials Committee ahead of the Chapel’s elections scheduled for March 2026.

The decisions were taken at a well-attended Congress of the Chapel held on Monday, February 10, 2026, reflecting members’ satisfaction with the leadership style, transparency, and internal cohesion recorded under the current administration.

Moving the motion for the vote of confidence, Comrade Victor Otuya commended the Agbajor-led Exco for what he described as steady, inclusive, and people-centred leadership. He said the leadership had strengthened professional unity, improved members’ welfare consciousness, enhanced stakeholder engagement, and restored dignity to the Chapel’s operations.

Several members who spoke in support of the motion, including Comrade Wilson Macaulay, Comrade Malcolm Tagbarha, Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor, and Comrade Peace Caleb, described the confidence vote as well-earned. They noted that the Exco had operated an open-door policy, promoted ethical journalism, and sustained cordial relationships with government institutions, security agencies, and the public.

The motion, when put to a voice vote, was overwhelmingly endorsed by members.

In line with NUJ constitutional provisions, Congress also approved the constitution of a three-member Election/Credentials Committee to conduct the forthcoming elections. The committee is tasked with screening aspirants, verifying credentials, setting election guidelines, and ensuring a free, fair, and credible electoral process.

Members of the committee are Comrade Hope Akaezue (Chairman), Comrade Nicholas Omoko (Secretary), and Comrade Victor Otuya (Member).

Reacting, Comrade Agbajor thanked members for the confidence reposed in his leadership, describing the gesture as humbling and motivating. He assured that the Exco would fully support the Election/Credentials Committee to ensure a transparent and peaceful election.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Election/Credentials Committee, Comrade Hope Akaezue, expressed appreciation to Congress for the trust placed in the committee and pledged to discharge its duties strictly in line with the NUJ Constitution.
