The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed 1,650 officers across Osun State ahead of Eid-el-Kabir celebrations. State Commandant Igbalawole Sotiyo announced the move during a security meeting at Command Headquarters on Tuesday.
Sotiyo told Area Commanders and Divisional Officers that personnel would be spread across the state. The deployment aims to maintain peace and prevent crime during the festive period.
"I charge you all to intensify intelligence gathering, surveillance and rapid response operations before, during and after the festive period," the commandant said. He instructed officers to work closely with other security agencies.
Security personnel will be stationed at prayer grounds, motor parks and markets. Critical national assets and infrastructure will also receive protection during the celebrations.
Sotiyo noted that Osun expects an influx of visitors for the occasion. He said the command had strengthened its operational strategies to safeguard lives and property.
The commandant warned criminals and vandals to stay away from the state. "The command is prepared to deal decisively with anyone attempting to disrupt public peace," he stressed.
Sotiyo directed Area Commanders to maintain strict supervision of deployed personnel. He called for stronger collaboration with traditional rulers and community leaders, particularly in border communities.
Residents have been urged to remain alert and report suspicious activities. Sotiyo asked citizens to contact security agencies immediately when they notice anything unusual.
Command spokesperson Adeleke Kehinde released details of the security meeting on Tuesday. He said the deployment formed part of intensified operations designed to maintain law and order.
