Nigeria's New Nigeria Peoples Party has thrown its backing behind a growing opposition coalition ahead of 2027. Party spokesman Ladipo Johnson made the announcement in a statement released Thursday.

Johnson said opposition leaders have united around a vision for national renewal. According to him, they're no longer separate entities but a single force with one aim.

"We are no longer just individual parties; we are a unified movement representing the collective will of Nigerians who are tired of the status quo," the statement read.

He added that the alignment rests on shared principles and a determination to rescue Nigeria from its current economic crisis. The coalition believes it has the numbers to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress in the next general election.

But the NNPP warned of obstacles ahead. Officials say the Tinubu administration is creating barriers to undermine fair competition.

"It is becoming increasingly clear that the Tinubu-led administration is wary of a level playing field," Johnson noted in the statement.

He sent a clear message to the APC and government institutions on behalf of the opposition. Nigerians deserve nothing less than a free, fair, and transparent election, he insisted.

Johnson vowed the coalition won't tolerate interference in the democratic process. They're committed to protecting ballot integrity and bringing competent leadership to power, he concluded.
