Nigeria's Railway Corporation plans to boost train services on the Lagos–Ibadan route during Sallah festivities. The temporary expansion takes effect Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Callistus Unyimadu, NRC's chief spokesperson, announced the decision in a statement released this week. He explained that the move responds to expected travel surges during the Eid-El-Kabir celebration.

Instead of the usual four daily trips, six trains will operate on that Tuesday. This allows more families to travel home for the holidays.

From Lagos, departures are scheduled for 7:45am, 1:40pm and 4:00pm respectively. The Ibadan station will send trains at 8:00am, 10:50am and 4:30pm.

Unyimadu stressed this arrangement remains temporary and holiday-specific. Normal four-trip service resumes immediately after Sallah celebrations conclude.

Thursday operations face slight adjustments as well. Only four trains will run on May 28, down from the recently introduced six-trip Thursday schedule.

Regular Thursday service returns to six trips the following week. NRC said this temporary measure ensures passenger comfort during peak travel demand.

Osun State Government is running a complementary service for its residents. A free train will depart Iddo Station on Tuesday, May 26.

Return passengers travel back to Lagos on Thursday, May 28. The journey originates from Osogbo, the state capital.

According to NRC officials, Osun State funds this annual initiative through a direct arrangement with the corporation. Eligible passengers travel at no cost during the festival period.

The service targets Osun indigenes celebrating Sallah in their home communities. It's become a tradition during major festive occasions across the year.

NRC management reaffirmed its commitment to safe and dependable rail transport nationwide. Officials wished Nigerians a joyful and peaceful Sallah celebration ahead.
