Nigerian President Tinubu Returns to Abuja After AU Summit

President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has returned to Abuja after attending the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government.

The President arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Int’l Airport at 04:00 pm local time on Monday, concluding his 15th foreign trip since assuming the Presidency nine months ago.

During his three-day stay at the summit, President Tinubu discussed various thematic issues such as climate change and the modalities of the AU’s participation and priorities in the G20.

He also emphasized the importance of addressing Africa’s health sector challenges through collaboration that transcends borders and sectors, leveraging collective expertise, knowledge, resources, and the private sector.

At a plenary session attended by several of his counterparts, President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to host the African Central Bank according to the vision of the Abuja Treaty.

He also held talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, with both countries now planning to establish direct flight operations between their respective financial capitals of Lagos and São Paulo.

President Tinubu has so far visited Paris, France (thrice); London, the United Kingdom; Bissau, Guinea-Bissau (twice); Nairobi, Kenya; Porto Norvo, Benin Republic; New Delhi, India; Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates; New York, the United States of America; Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; and Berlin, Germany.

His return to Nigeria coincides with protests in Oyo State over the rising cost of living.

As President Tinubu resumes his duties in Abuja, the nation is eager to see how his recent engagements on the continental stage will influence domestic affairs and contribute to the development of Nigeria.
