Nigerian Navy Destroys Illegal Refineries, Seizes 160,000 Liters of Crude Oil

The Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base in Brass, Bayelsa, recently launched a successful operation to combat illegal oil theft and bunkering in the Niger-Delta region.

The operation, known as Nigerian Navy Operation DELTA SANITY, led to the destruction of three illegal refinery sites, a wooden boat, and the seizure of 160,000 liters of suspected stolen crude oil.

Led by Capt. Murtala Aminu Rogo, the Commanding Officer of Forward Operating Base (FORMOSO), the Nigerian Navy personnel conducted patrols on Brass River and Akassa general area.

During their operations, they located two illegal refinery sites with about 85,000 liters of products suspected to be stolen crude oil and a pumping machine.

Additionally, the team found a large wooden boat laden with approximately 75,000 liters of product suspected to be stolen crude oil in the Tuluama area of Brass LGA.

All of the illegal refinery sites and the wooden boat were appropriately handled as part of the ongoing investigations into the criminal networks involved in these activities.

Rear Adm. S. J. Bura, the Flag Officer Commanding of the Central Naval Command, is leading Operation DELTA SANITY with the goal of tackling crude oil theft, illegal oil bunkering, and other criminal activities within Nigerian waters.

The Nigerian Navy, under the leadership of Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), remains committed to maintaining the security and safety of the Nigerian maritime domain.
