Niger State Governor Clarifies Food Purchase Ban Misconception

Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, recently addressed misconceptions regarding the state’s stance on mass purchase of food items from local markets to neighboring countries.

Bago clarified that the state only stopped bulk purchases of food from local markets to international markets, not to other Nigerian states.

In an effort to protect local industries and ensure fair market prices for farmers, Niger State has regulated the level of sales, preventing exploitation by middlemen and smugglers.

The governor explained that the decision was made to prevent the exportation of agricultural produce, which could negatively impact the local economy and starve local factories.

Bago emphasized that Niger State’s markets are open to other Nigerian states and that food items are not restricted from being moved to other parts of the country.

He highlighted the challenges faced by local farmers, including exploitation by middlemen and smugglers who divert agricultural produce to international markets.

The governor stressed the need to protect local industries and ensuring fair market prices for farmers.

He also emphasized the detrimental effects of unchecked food exportation on the local economy, pointing out that Niger State’s factories were suffering due to the exploitation of agricultural resources.

The ban on bulk purchases of food from Niger to other states has helped to reduce food inflation in the state, according to Bago.

He reiterated the state’s commitment to supporting local farmers and ensuring food security within the country.
