Niger State Government Spends N109 Million to Enhance Ramadan School Feeding

In preparation for the forthcoming Ramadan, the Niger State government has invested N109 million to enhance the feeding arrangements for students in boarding schools.

This effort, under the leadership of Governor Umaru Mohammad Bago, aims to prioritize the wellbeing of students during the holy month.

Dr Hadiza Asabe Mohammed, the commissioner for basic and secondary education, recently distributed 20 grinding machines and improved food items to 43 boarding schools in the state.

The special food items are intended to ensure better quality and quantity of Ramadan meals, meeting the nutritional needs of students during the fast.

The 20 grinding machines distributed to 20 schools out of the 43 will enable them to process food items effectively and improve the preparation of meals for students observing the fast. Dr Mohammed attributed the high cost of N109 million to the spike in food item prices.

The commissioner expressed optimism that this initiative would contribute to a healthier and more fulfilling educational experience for students in boarding schools across the state.

She also urged school principals, who manage the schools, to ensure that the food reaches the students and that cooks’ activities are closely monitored to prevent any diversion of the food.

The chairperson of the Committee on Schools Feeding, who is also the director general of Schools and Educational Reforms, Hajiya Maimuna Mohammad, stated that a time table for meals was sent to schools to ensure a balanced diet.

As Niger State’s government demonstrates its commitment to the wellbeing of students during Ramadan, this substantial investment in school feeding is a positive step toward providing a better educational experience for students in the region.
