The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have agreed to collaborate on tackling this challenge.
During a recent visit by the NFVCB's Executive Director/CEO, Shaibu Husseini, to the EFCC's Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, both parties expressed concerns about the glamourisation of crimes and get-rich-quick schemes in movies and skits.
They emphasized the need to work together to promote better standards in the Nigerian film industry.
According to Husseini, the NFVCB is taking a proactive approach to discourage crime glorification by engaging with scriptwriters, producers, filmmakers, and skit makers to raise awareness about the implications of their work on society.
The board plans to start with the production of a Public Service Announcement (PSA) in collaboration with the EFCC as part of its media literacy initiatives for Nigerians.
Olukoyede commended the NFVCB's efforts and pledged the full support and involvement of the EFCC in the collaboration.
He highlighted the importance of addressing the misrepresentation of the EFCC and its officers in films and video works, which can negatively influence public perceptions and behavior.
This joint initiative by the NFVCB and the EFCC is a crucial step towards promoting positive values and discouraging crime glorification in Nigerian media.
By working together, the two agencies aim to create a more responsible and ethical film industry that will benefit society as a whole.
