Mohammed Sanusi, general secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), pledged on Friday that the organisation will back all programmes designed to strengthen women's involvement in football and support girls in the sport. He made the commitment while opening a FIFA capacity-building workshop for female football administrators in Abuja.
Sanusi stressed that women's empowerment sits at the heart of the current NFF leadership's agenda. He relayed a message of support from Ibrahim Musa Gusau, NFF president, and urged workshop participants to apply what they learn to their work in Nigerian football.
"The present NFF administration headed by Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau is very passionate about the issue of women empowerment," Sanusi said.
He described the three-day workshop as both timely and vital, noting that the NFF remains committed to initiatives that develop women in football administration. "You must ensure that whatever you learn here is translated to reality," he told participants.
Sanusi highlighted the federation's track record in supporting women's development. The NFF has delivered several programmes, he noted, including CAF D Coaching courses and CAF C-license courses exclusively for women, plus a recent WAFU B Women Administrators programme.
The FIFA-facilitated workshop aims to equip female administrators with contemporary skills across governance, competition management, marketing, and developing women's football in Nigeria. FIFA designed the programme to help member associations strengthen women's football at every level.
