Neymar aimed a jab at German economist Joachim Klement on social media following Brazil's 2-1 victory against Japan in the World Cup Round of 32. Klement had predicted an upset win for Japan, but the Seleção's comeback proved him wrong.

The economist built his reputation by successfully forecasting the winners of the last three World Cups: Germany in 2014, France in 2018, and Argentina in 2022. Before the tournament began, he insisted his predictions aimed to show that economists struggle to forecast events outside their expertise.

Klement had boldly claimed Japan would eliminate Brazil in the knockout stage, while the Netherlands would claim the trophy in North America. His forecast seemed plausible when Japan led 1-0 at halftime.

Casemiro restored parity before the hour mark, levelling the match. The tension mounted as extra time loomed, but Gabriel Martinelli struck in the dying seconds to secure Brazil's passage to the next round.

Neymar didn't miss the chance to call out Klement's miscalculation. The Santos forward posted on X: "Mr.

Joachim Klement… please try harder at the next World Cup," accompanied by a winking emoji.

Klement doubled down on his prediction in a recent interview with Fortune India, insisting Japan could have beaten Brazil. He argued that while Brazil boast greater historical pedigree, their current squad lacks the quality of previous generations.

The stumble appeared uncharacteristic for Klement, whose track record had earned him widespread credibility among those who follow World Cup analysis. His latest miscalculation raised questions about whether his previous successes were flukes or strategic foresight.

Neymar, who remains hungry for his first major trophy with Brazil, seized the moment to celebrate not just the victory but also to remind critics that predictions don't always align with reality. The forward's pointed message suggested he'd relish another opportunity to prove Klement wrong if the teams met again.
