NEDC to Distribute 300,000 Bags of Rice and Essential Items to North East Residents

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has announced plans to distribute essential items to residents of the North East region in response to the escalating cost of living and increasing food prices across Nigeria.

The initiative, unveiled by NEDC Board Chairman Maj Gen Paul Tarfa (rtd), aims to provide relief to families in the states of Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, and Bauchi, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to alleviate the country’s economic challenges.

The NEDC has pledged to distribute 300,000 bags of rice, 200,000 cartons of spaghetti and macaroni, 100,000 cartons of sugar, and 100,000 bags of branded mats.

The relief package also includes 100,000 branded blankets, 100,000 sets of men’s clothing (shedda), 100,000 women’s wrappers, 100,000 pieces of children’s clothing, and 100,000 cartons of vegetable oil.

In addition to the food distribution, the NEDC is committed to completing over 600 development projects currently underway in the region.

These projects include finishing all ongoing road projects and the construction of 500 housing units intended for the rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

The Commission has also adopted a unique approach to transportation within the six states of the North East zone by procuring and deploying an unspecified number of e-vehicles.

This initiative aims to reduce transportation fares and generate employment opportunities for the region’s youth.

The NEDC’s efforts to provide essential items, support development projects, and improve transportation in the North East region will not only help alleviate the economic challenges faced by residents but also contribute to the overall development and progress of the area.
