Ali Ndume, the former Senate Leader, has clinched the APC's senatorial ticket for Borno South. He was returned unopposed at the party primary held in Maiduguri on Monday.

The affirmation process saw no contenders challenging Ndume's candidacy. His main rival, Abdullahi Askira, withdrew from the race last month.

Askira, who serves as Deputy Speaker in the Borno State House of Assembly, stepped aside following consultations with party elders. Sources say stakeholders persuaded him to drop his ambitions for the ticket.

If Ndume wins the 2027 general election, it would mark his fifth term in the National Assembly. The former lawmaker currently represents the district in the Senate.

In his reaction, Ndume expressed gratitude to APC stakeholders across Borno South. He praised delegates and party members for their show of confidence in him.

He commended Askira for heeding calls from party leadership. "Your loyalty to the party is exemplary," Ndume told his former rival.

Ndume promised to continue championing the interests of his constituents at the National Assembly. "I will continue to promote their interest at all times," he noted in a statement.

He called on party members to remain united moving forward. According to him, the APC must work as one family as Nigeria heads toward 2027.

Ndume thanked district elders for their unwavering backing throughout the process. The senator expressed confidence in the party's chances in the coming elections.
