NDLEA uncovers meth, opioid consignments hidden in jeans hems, dolls, buttons

In a statement on Sunday, Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA spokesman, revealed that they had busted a drug smuggling ring that was sending illegal substances to Europe, the UAE, and Asia.

He said that the NDLEA agents from the DOGI unit raided some courier houses in Lagos and found a stash of meth and opioids hidden in various items such as jeans, dolls, buttons, soap, and milo tins.

Some of the drugs they seized were tramadol 225mg tucked in jeans going to Cyprus; cannabis sativa stuffed in dolls heading to Dubai; tramadol 225mg packed in milo tins bound for the UAE; and more of the same drug wrapped in soap also bound for the UAE.

They also confiscated a batch of meth hidden in buttons on its way to Hong Kong and another shipment of an unknown substance from Florida, USA.

Babafemi also said that on Friday, December 1st, they nabbed a notorious drug lord, Okechukwu Ogala, 56, who was using and luring young people to send meth to Asian countries.

He was caught at the Blue Moon Hotel in Okota, Lagos, with 60 packets of meth weighing 1.009 kilogrammes.

In another operation on Friday, December 1st, they seized 393 kg of cannabis from a shop at Akala, Mushin, and arrested Justin Enuonye, a dealer of Canadian Loud, at Victoria Island. He was handed over to the NDLEA Lagos Command with 154 bundles weighing 92 kg.

Babafemi also said that an NDLEA team stopped a vehicle in Oyingbo, Lagos, and found 108 kg of cannabis in it. They also recovered 675 kilogrammes of the same drug from the shop of a wanted criminal, Wahab Olota, in Adedoja, Mushin.
