The National Democratic Congress has settled a leadership row in Kano state, keeping Hon. Husaini Isah Mai Riga as chairman.

Mai Riga had accused Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of attempting to seize control of party structures in the state.

Trouble started when Kwankwaso, a former Kano governor and head of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, joined the NDC.

His entry unsettled the state chapter. Some members began pushing for Mai Riga to step down.

Mai Riga refused to budge without following proper procedures. He insisted his leadership position was valid and binding.

Party leaders at the national level intervened. They held a special meeting on Tuesday with Sen.

Seriake Henry Dickson presiding.

Kwankwaso attended alongside Northwest vice chairman Engr. Muhammad Sabo Bakin Zuwo and other senior figures.

Sources familiar with the talks say a deal emerged. Kwankwaso kept his seat while receiving additional positions in return.

The resolution gives Kwankwaso 60 percent of leadership posts across the state structure. Mai Riga remains as the substantive chairman.

After the settlement, Mai Riga thanked the national leadership and Kano residents for backing him through the dispute.

He apologized to anyone he may have upset during recent confrontations. According to him, the outcome showed the party's leaders possessed real wisdom.
